You’ll learn about production\, key labelling terminology and major classifications to help you identify wines with confidence. This course is fantastic CV material for those pursuing a career in Wine or hospitality. For the amateur consumer it will provide invaluable knowledge and expertise – meaning that you will be able to choose and appreciate wine with confidence! \nSuccessful students will receive a WSET certificate. \nWhat’s Covered \n\nHow wine is made\nWhat factors influence wine style\nThe key white and black grape varieties and their characteristics\nThe important wine-producing regions of the world in which these grapes are grown\nThe production of sparkling\, sweet and fortified wines\nLabel terminology\nTutored tastings of 48 wines\nHow to describe wine using the WSET Level 2 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT)\nHow to make food and wine pairings\n\nDo I need any prior knowledge? No prior knowledge is required. All classes are delivered in English therefore a good level of English is beneficial. Students completely new to wine and spirits study may wish to complete the Level 1 Award in Wines first. However\, this is not essential. \nCourse delivery – This qualification has a minimum requirement of 28 hours of study time\, including 16 hours of classroom time. There will be eight classes lasting two hours each. \nAssessment – Assessment is by a closed-book exam of 50 multiple-choice questions\, to be completed in one hour. The exam will take place in week 9\,the final session of the course. For individuals seeking to delve deeper into the world of wines\, this qualification provides a detailed understanding of grape growing and wine making. Upon completion you will be able to assess wines accurately\, and use your understanding to confidently explain wine style and quality. \nOur experienced educators will assist you to develop your analytic tasting abilities through a carefully selected series of 82 wine samples. \nUpon successful completion you will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin\, and will be able to use the associated WSET certified logo. \nWhat you’ll learn \nUnit 1 \n\nThe key factors in the production of wine: location\, grape growing\, winemaking\, maturation and bottling\nHow these key factors influence the key characteristics of the principal still\, sparkling and fortified wines of the world\nHow to apply your understanding to explain wine style and quality\n\nUnit 2 \n\nHow to taste wines\, describe their characteristics and evaluate their quality\, using the WSET Level 3 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT)\nTutored tastings of 82 wines.\n\nCourse delivery \nThis qualification has a minimum requirement of 84 hours of study time\, including 30 hours of classroom time. \nStudents should note that this is a demanding course and are advised to allow adequate self-study and revision time. A minimum of 60 hours of study time is recommended\, in addition to classroom attendance. \nIt is essential that all 16 classes are attended. \nAssessment \nUnit 1 is assessed by a closed-book exam of 50 multiple-choice questions and a short-written answer paper. Unit 2 is assessed by a blind tasting of two wines.  \n\n A mark of 55% is required in both parts to Pass.\nAn aggregate mark of 65% is a Pass with Merit.\nAn aggregate mark of 80% is a Pass with Distinction \n\n This qualification is regulated by Ofqual  \nEntry requirements \nIt is recommended that you hold the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines and Spirits or can demonstrate the equivalent level of knowledge. \nCost – £875 – The cost includes all study materials\, wine and samples\, tuition\, six ISO tasting glasses\, examination\, postage and VAT.
