Situated at the site of a renovated Victorian model farm in Cumbria\u2019s Lake District National Park, the distillery sits a mere 40 minute car journey from the Scottish border.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-image align_none\"><div class=\"w-image-h\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/oxfordwine.co.uk\/owc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Lakes-Distillery-Outside-1024x576.jpeg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" srcset=\"https:\/\/oxfordwine.co.uk\/owc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Lakes-Distillery-Outside-1024x576.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/oxfordwine.co.uk\/owc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Lakes-Distillery-Outside-300x169.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/oxfordwine.co.uk\/owc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Lakes-Distillery-Outside.jpeg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-separator size_small\"><\/div><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><p>Beginning production in 2014, the Whiskymaker\u2019s Reserve is now into batch No. 5 after batch No. 4 was named The World\u2019s Best Single Malt at the World Whisky Awards earlier in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The distillery\u2019s signature style is described as \u201cheavily sherried\u201d with both Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez casks playing a major role in the maturation program. Despite its richness however, I find that there remains a sense of elegance and purity to this whisky, particularly on the palate. At 52% abv and, having been matured in a combination of Oloroso, Pedro Ximenez and red wine casks, it certainly doesn\u2019t shy away from the punch.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of flavour profile it\u2019s, as you can imagine, packed with caramel werther\u2019s original notes, red apples, lashings of stewed fruits, vanilla and dried figs. On the palate there\u2019s a prickle on the tongue before everything gets coated in sherried notes. The finish goes on for miles.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/shop.oxfordwine.co.uk\/products\/lakes-whiskymakers-edition-mosaic\"><strong>Whiskymaker\u2019s Edition: Mosaic<\/strong><\/a> &#8211; 46.6% abv<\/p>\n<p>The Mosaic is a diversion from the distillery\u2019s sherry lead house style. Instead, this whisky is lighter in style and exhibits some really interesting spice notes; think macadamia nuts, dried currants, dark chocolate and wood spice.\u00a0 There&#8217;s also a healthy whack of cooked apple and enough of a sherry note to remind you its Lakes whisky that you&#8217;re drinking.<\/p>\n<p>Released in February 2022, this is another limited edition run demonstrating the diversity of options this distillery can produce.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-separator size_small\"><\/div><div class=\"g-cols wpb_row via_flex valign_top type_default stacking_default\"><div class=\"vc_col-sm-12 wpb_column vc_column_container\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/shop.oxfordwine.co.uk\/products\/lakes-the-one-fine-blended-whiskey\"><strong>The One Fine Blended Whisky<\/strong><\/a> &#8211; 46.6% abv<\/p>\n<p>A whisky to demonstrate the blending prowess of this distillery at a price that serves as a fantastic introduction to the Lakes house style.
