While it does produce some red wine, it is most famous for its white wine production, made from Chardonnay. Rather less importantly, it is also one of my own favourite wine regions.<\/p>\n<p>M\u00e2con and M\u00e2con-<span class=\"markt0bdk6awt\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">Village<\/span>s are the starting point for these wines, but you may also see the word M\u00e2con with a place name attached to it \u2013 such as M\u00e2con-Solutr\u00e9 or M\u00e2con-Verzenay \u2013 denoting a higher quality region. M\u00e2con is also home to a number of\u00a0<span class=\"markt0bdk6awt\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">village<\/span>s which have been singled out for their even higher quality, such as Saint-V\u00e9ran or Pouilly-Fuiss\u00e9 (which won\u2019t feature the word M\u00e2con on their labels). Who said wine was confusing?<\/p>\n<p>The key thing to remember about M\u00e2con, though, is that it is one of the last regions of Burgundy which can offer decent value for money. Anybody who has been to a shop recently looking for some Meursault or Puligny-Montrachet will know what I mean \u2013 a combination of dwindling volumes and heightened demand has pushed prices for these once affordable wines into the stratosphere.<\/p>\n<p>Nobody is pretending that a lowly M\u00e2con-<span class=\"markt0bdk6awt\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">Village<\/span>s will offer the same complexity or ageworthiness as its C\u00f4te d\u2019Or cousins. Yet improvements in winemaking and investments have meant quality is improving all the time.<\/p>\n<p><em><b>Recommendation: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/shop.oxfordwine.co.uk\/products\/loron-fils-la-crochette-macon-villages\">La Crochette M\u00e2con-<span class=\"markt0bdk6awt\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">Village<\/span>s, Loron &amp; Fils<\/a> &#8211; An utterly classic unoaked M\u00e2con which shows good depth of flavour while remaining refreshing and bright.
