There’s a long and fascinating story when it comes to “British” rums. Dating back to the 17th Century companies in the UK would purchase barrels of newly made spirit from various parts of the Caribbean, ship them back home, age them in warehouses close to the docks before blending and bottling some years later.
Despite rum’s historic relationship across multiple facets of British culture, at the beginning of 2016 the British Isles had not one actual rum distillery to speak of. Seven years later and there are now more than 30 producers putting together a cacophony of different styles from marshmallowy molasses examples to super funky sugarcane honey explosions of flavour. There are rum distilleries in operation from Portsmouth to Islay and everywhere in between.
Join us for a very special tasting where we explore the history of rum in the UK and look towards its future with three new distilleries already producing some seriously exceptional liquid.
