We are delighted to welcome Joanna King, owner of the quality-focused Ventoux estate Château Unang, to The Jericho Wine Rooms this April.
Joanna and her husband James are committed to Château Unang as a family enterprise with an emphasis on quality and care – in terms of their vineyards, wine and the wider environment. The essence of their approach to our work in both the vineyards and the cave is simplicity and balance – achieved through the guarded use of technology to complement time-honoured, and tested methods.
The property sits deep in the tail end of the Nesque Valley, named after the Nesque River that flows out of the high Vaucluse Plateau to the east and runs through a rugged limestone gorge. Unang is an isolated, self-contained domaine with, interestingly enough, its own geological category: les sables d’Unang. This refers to a particular type of sandy soil that lies overtop limestone. Apart from Unang’s hillside, pockets of the sands of Unang are also found in the Gigondas AOC.
This promises to be a fascinating and delicious look at a quality-focused and unique Ventoux Domaine.
