At The Oxford Wine Company we spend our days surrounded by thousands of delicious wines, but when it comes to a special occasion, such as Valentine’s Day, here’s what we’ll be reaching for!
What We’re Drinking on Valentine’s Day

Ted Sandbach, Owner & Chairman
Amie X Rosé 2023 – £19.25 – Few wines are more evocative of Valentine’s Day than a rosé, especially the Amie X! I will be enjoying a perfectly chilled glass of this with my wife as an apéritif.

Neil Gladding, Sales Director
Black Chalk Wild Rose, Hampshire 2021 – £44.75 – A delicate wild-rose pink, this sparkling rosé is classy and complex.

John Shuckburgh, WSET Educator
Châteauneuf-du-Pape Immortelle, Château de la Gardine 2018 – £115.00 – Enticingly juicy blackberry fruit intimately mingled with hints of luscious fudge, oh, so teasing whisps of smoke and fragrant acacia flowers that will drive you both mad with desire for the exquisite crescendo!

Manda Joyce, Wine Advisor
Boschendal Brut Rosé Méthode Cap Classique NV – £16.00 – No question, my Valentine pick is the pink sparkler that is Boschendal Rosé. It’s a long-time favourite, just like my husband!

Tom Brady, Shop Manager & Spirits Buyer
Val Delle Rose ‘Poggio Al Leone’ Morellino Di Scansano Riserva DOCG 2021 – £25.00 – Unfortunately I won’t be whisking my wife away to the Tuscan coast this Valentine’s Day. Hopefully one of our favourite wines from there will go some way towards recreating the mood.

Katy Barker, Retail Marketing Manager
Val Delle Rose Il Ciliegiolo, Maremma Toscana DOC 2020 – £20.00 – Sharing pizzas and a bottle of Italian wine is me and my fiancé’s love language! Our current favourite is this Ciliegiolo, a native variety from Tuscany that we have enjoyed on many occasion.

Emily Silva, Head of Retail and Marketing
Valletta Toscana Rosso IGT, Gagliole 2019 – £33.50 – This year our Valentine’s table will be graced by a bottle of Gagliole’s Valletta 2019. This blend of Merlot and Sangiovese is beautifully complex, with gorgeous aromatics and a powerful palate. I’m planning to serve it alongside lamb shoulder with cannellini – a perfect dish to stick in the oven and forget about for a couple of hours until it starts to smell just as delicious as the wine. A perfect pairing to share with your perfect partner.

Nick Gorton, Shop Manager
Viña Ardanza Reserva, La Rioja Alta 2017 – £34.00 – My wife is a massive fan of traditional Riojas, and her face always lights up when I bring a bottle of this home. Delicious fruit with rich oak character and some wonderful bottle development, this will be sure to show anyone just how much you care about them!

Thom Allinson, Buying & Logistics
Szepsy Estate Tokaji Dry Furmint 2018 – £33.50 – My wife and I have just returned from a romantic weekend in Budapest, so of course we tried lots of Hungarian wine. Furmint was one of our favourites and this one from Szepsy is the best of the best!

Richard Volpi, Trade Sales
Bodegas Mateos La Vanidosa No1 Garnacha, Rioja 2020 – £21.00 – My wife and I will be enjoying a bottle of La Vanidosa No1 Garnacha Rioja from Bodegas Mateos, no doubt with a chicken paella – perfect!

Emma Bristow, Wine Advisor
Pinotage, Kaapzicht Rooiland, Stellenbosch 2021 – £23.50 – I recently discovered this Pinotage and love it! Red and black fruits on the nose followed with an oaky vanilla spice finish wrapped in a super soft tannin structure. Would complement any grilled meat dinner and it now a part of my ‘love list’!

Romain Alaphilippe, Shop Manager
Domaine Hatzimichalis, Schioppettino Limnio Red 2021 – £25.00 – For a romantic Valentine’s dinner, choose a wine that’s light, fresh, and full of surprises. The Domaine Hatzimichalis Schioppettino Limnio is just that—a unique blend of Schioppettino and Limnio, offering a delicate fizz that refreshes the palate before unfolding into dried fig, red berries, and warm spices.

Lucy Harrison, Shop Manager
M. Chapoutier Cornas Les Arènes 2019 – £42.00 – I have a new found love for the Northern Rhône and this is everything I want in a Syrah- black fruit, olive tapenade, black pepper and grilled meats.
