Sustainable Small-Batch Whisky with Lochlea

We were delighted to welcome Alex Ferrand from Lochlea Distillery to the Turl Street Cellar this Thursday for a very special tasting to introduce four brand new whiskies from this pioneering distillery.

Our host Alex credits his passion for whisky to a bottle bought for him by his mother many years ago. This bottle set off a chain reaction, leading to him flying to Glasgow several years ago, working in a whisky bar and ultimately finding himself working at Lochlea. He guided us through five drams, explaining the philosophy of the distillery as we went. We learned about the experimental batches the team at Lochlea like to put together, the myriad sheep, cows and other animals of the estate, and the unique philosophy of sourcing all barley and water used to produce Lochlea’s delicious whisky from the estate itself.
